Buhari Cancels Trip To South
President Muhammadu Buhari has unexpectedly cancelled his planned trip for today to the Niger Delta.
According to a government source, Buhari cancelled the trip because of ‘scheduling difficulties.’
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo will now take Buhari’s place and will head up the clean up of the region.
The region has recently been embroiled in violence and chaos as local militants have attacked various oil refineries in the region.
The attacks on the oil producing plants have caused Nigeria to have the lowest oil production rate of recent years, which in turn heavily impacts the country’s economy.
It is not clear of the recent unrest in the area was a factor in Buhari cancelling the trip.
He did previously say that he would hold talks with the militant leaders in the area and discuss their grievances and try and come up with an idea that works for both parties involved.
