Buhari Says Boko Haram Leader Injured In Attack
President Muhammadu Buhari announced over the weekend that Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau, had been wounded in a recent attack.
Last week, Nigeria’s army launched air strikes on various Boko Haram camps in their forest stronghold. They had also confirmed that various senior members of the terrorist organization had been injured and that some were killed.
They did not, however, expand on the status of Abubakar Shekau.
Buhari’s comments on the fact that he is wounded are the first that any Nigerian official has made.
“…We learnt that in an air strike by the Nigeria Air Force he was wounded…Indeed their top hierarchy and lower cadre have a problem…[sic] They are not holding any territory and they have split to small groups attacking soft targets,” he said in a statement.
Buhari is currently in Nairobi, Kenya, where he is attending the Tokyo International Conference on African Development which intends to encourage ties between Africa and Japan.
