Buhari In Trouble Over Plagiarising Of Obama Speech
Nigerian president, Muhammadu Buhari, has come under scrutiny for admitting to copying a part of US president Barack Obama’s 2008 speech and using it in his own speech recently.
Buhari admitted over the weekend that part of his “Change Begins With Me” speech was copied from Obama’s victory speech, when he was elected as president of the United States in 2008.
The presidency issued a statement on Friday, admitting that a certain paragraph from Buhari’s speech was copied from Obama’s 2008 speech.
“We must resist the temptation to fall back on the same partisanship, pettiness and immaturity that have poisoned our country for so long,” is the paragraph in question.
The presidency admitted in their statement that the paragraph is similar to that of president Obama’s:
“…It was observed that the similarities between a paragraph in President Obama’s 2008 victory speech…are too close to be passed as coincidence [sic],” a part of the statement read.
They also said in their statement that the speech writer who wrote the speech will “face appropriate sanction [sic].”
