Candlelight Vigil Held For Victims of EgyptAir Flight
Hundreds upon hundreds of people gathered at a site in Cairo, Egypt yesterday to hold a candlelight vigil for the victims of EgyptAir flight 804 that crashed into the Mediterranean last week.
Yesterday marked exactly a week since the plane disappeared and was later discovered to have crashed into the ocean about 290 kilometers off Egypt’s coast.
Sherif Fathy, Egypt’s Aviation Minister, also attended the vigil, and told reporters that it is important to honour the victims of the crash and support their families:
“…We are here to pay respect to the souls of our victims and wish their families peace,” he said.
The vigil was held at the Cairo Opera House and more than 500 mourners came to the site to pay their respects to the victims of the crash. People were carrying candles and flowers as they mourned the victims and comforted the families.
As for the wreckage of the aircraft, Egyptian and French investigators are still rummaging through the wreckage and are still trying to locate the plane’s black box.
Yesterday, French officials announced that they were going to hire a private investigating firm to help with the investigation.
Egypt is also said to be hiring a private investigating firm to help with the search.
