Court Adjourns TB Joshua Trial Again
The criminal negligence trial of mega preacher TB Joshua and his mega church had been adjourned by a judge yet again.
The trial, that centers around the now infamous fatal building collapse at the famous Lagos megachurch in 2014, has been dragging on for some time now.
Preacher TB Joshua, church trustees and two engineers are accused of criminal negligence and involuntary manslaughter.
The collapse of the church and adjoining guesthouse at the Synagogue Church of All Nations in 2014 had made headlines across the world as news of the horrific incident spread.
In total, 116 people were killed, with most of them being South Africans, having traveled to the church specially for a service.
This is also not the first time this trial has been adjourned.
Due to a number oaf legal changes surrounding TB Joshua and his legal aid and other influencing factors, the trial had been adjourned several times before in the last year.
In 2015, a coroner’s finding proved that the church itself and two engineers contracted to work on the building were to be responsible for the tragedy.
An inquest into the collapse also revealed that the six-story guesthouse collapsed due to structural failures and that the church – nor TB Joshua – had obtained permits to start the building. Therefor, they had not had proper permission to do so.
Judge Lateef Lawal-Akapo of the Lagos High Court, said the case would resume on April 8th for arguments.
