EgyptAir Plane Disappears From Radar, Crashes

May 19, 2016

An EgyptAir plane is believed to have crashed somewhere close to the Greek islands after it made sharp turns on it’s way to Cairo.

The Airbus A320 was en route to Cairo from Paris when it suddenly disappeared off radar.

The plane, carrying 66 people on board, left Charles de Gaulle airport at local time on Wednesday, and was then scheduled to arrive in Cairo at 03:15 local time on Thursday.

However, EgyptAir said that the plane dropped off the radar at around 00:30 on Thursday morning, soon after it entered Egyptian airspace.

French president, Francois Hollande, however, has confirmed that the plane had crashed. He said that the plane had made sharp turns and then plunged before it dropped off radar.

According to both French and Greek authorities, a major search is currently being conducted in the seas south of the Greek island of Karpathos where the plane is believed to have crashed.

There has been no official reason given as to why the plane crashed or what exactly has happened.

However, Hollande said that he will keep an open mind as to the cause of the crash, as there are already whispers of terrorism being at play.

“…[sic] We will draw conclusions when we have the truth about what happened…Whether it was an accident, or whether it was – and it’s something that is on our minds – terrorism,” he said.

Relatives of those on board have gathered at both Paris and Cairo airports as they await more information.
