Emergency Yellow Fever Vaccination Campaign Begins In Congo

August 18, 2016

Various health organizations, under leadership of the World Health Organization, have begun a massive, emergency yellow fever vaccination process across the Congo.

In an effort to stop the disease from spreading globally, the WHO along with Doctors Without Borders, Save The Children and other health organizations have increased their efforts in getting the vaccine to as many people as they can.

They are also working closely with the Congolese government to ensure the vaccine reaches everyone.

They announced that they are aiming to reach around 10.5 million people within the next 10 days.

The latest outbreak of the disease happened in Angola, and has since shifted across the border to the Congo.

The WHO has said that it has claimed close to 500 lives already.

The government is working closely with these health organizations to stop the outbreak in Congo’s capital of Kinshasa.

This is the biggest outbreak of yellow fever in more than 20 years.
