A former, high-ranking Nigerian airforce officer has been arrested on suspicions of diversion of funds that were intended to be used to fight terrorist group, Boko Haram.

Air Marshal Adesola Amosun, who was the former chief of air staff and the highest-ranking air force officer, is currently being questioned about his alleged involvement in the diversion of the air force funds.

An official at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission confirmed to the Associated Press  that he has been in custody with them since Wednesday ad is currently being questioned.

“…[sic] He is being interrogated in connection with the arms deal scandal,” he said.

The president’s office also released a statement two weeks ago, addressing the alleged weapons procurement fraud. The president’s office said in a statement that the probe was widened and had recently included up to 17 former high-ranking officials.

The statement said that the probe would: “…[look at] the roles of the officers and the… companies and their directors in fundamental breaches associated with the procurements,”

It is alleged that a string of high-ranking officials faked an arms deal and effectively pocketed the money.
