French Armed Forces Kill 12 Islamic Extremists in Mali
French military forces with the aid of armed forces from Mali, have killed at least 12 Islamic extremists, after an attack on an army camp in the north of the country.
A statement by the French military operation operating in Mali, called Operation Barkhane, said that at least 12 Islamic extremist attackers were killed after they attacked the Gourma-Rharous army camp, which is situated about 120 kilometers from Timbuktu.
They also confirmed that four soldiers were killed and one other wounded during the attack on camp Gourma-Rharous.
According to Operation Barkhane’s statement, French air forces were alerted of the attack on the army camp by Mali armed forces, who responded after the attackers fled in two pick-up truck vehicles.
While no terrorist group has officially claimed responsibility for the attack, it is believed that the attack was carried out by a newly formed Islamic extremist group called Nusrat al-Islam wal Muslimeen.
This group had claimed responsibility for another attack on Malian armed forces in the town of Tagharost, which is about 150 kilometers from Timbuktu.
