Hope For Chibok Girls, Says Buhari

May 20, 2016

President Buhari has said that there is new hope for the abducted Chibok girls, after two of them were found this week.

Buhari met with the first girl that had been found since the disappearance of the girls in 2014 this yesterday.

19-year old Amina Ali and her mother were flown to the capital to the official residence of the president to meet with him yesterday.

Ali was found on Tuesday by civilian troops and vigilantes.

After the meeting, Buhari said that he was delighted to have met Ali, but he could not help but feel sadness over the horrors that the teen had to endure in her two years under Boko Haram’s captivity:

“…feelings are tinged with deep sadness at the horrors the young girl has had to go through at such an early stage in her life…Although we cannot do anything to reverse the horrors of her past, [the] federal government will do everything possible to ensure that the rest of her life takes a completely different course,” he said.

The government and military has been increasing their efforts in tracking down the remaining girls that were abducted from their school in April of 2014.

A total of 276 girls were abducted.

Amina Ali was immediately taken to hospital after she was found. She also had a baby with her, which is hers, who she named Safiya. She also had a man with her who she claimed was her husband.

According to witnesses she appeared thin and tired. Buhari said that Amini will be receiving the best medical care the government can afford and that she spent 5 hours undergoing medical tests by Unicef’s trauma unit.

The second girl that was found was rescued along with 97 women and children rescued by troops and civilian vigilantes in the Damboa area yesterday. She claimed to be one of the Chibok girls and said her name is Miss Serah Luka.

She is believed to be a Christian pastor’s daughter.

The government, under Buhari’s leadership, has vowed to take down Boko Haram and return all the missing girls home safely.
