Mexicans Arrested At Meth Lab In Lagos

March 15, 2016

The Nigerian National Drug Law Enforcement Agency announced yesterday that they had successfully arrested four Mexican men believed to be involved with Nigerian drug lords in the build of a ‘mega meth lab’ in the country’s capital.

According to the agency, the lab was planned to be big enough to produce billions of dollars worth of methamphetamine.

According to Mitchell Ofoyeju, a spokesperson for the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, this was the first crystal meth lab of its size and first ‘industrial-scale’ production of the drug that they have found in Nigeria, as well as the whole pf Western Africa.

According to Ofoyeju, the Nigerian drug lords in charge of the factory had contacted Mexican drug dealers and “experts” to help with the build of the lab.

It is believed that the Mexicans have extensive knowledge in setting up industrial-scale meth labs.

“…[sic] The Nigerians invited the Mexicans in to leverage their expertise in these industrial-scale, high-yield productions,” Ofoyeju said.

The successful arrests were made after an extensive undercover operation by authorities in Lagos.

The agency also said that the lab that they raided had already successfully produced a first batch of methamphetamine back in February and that the drug cartel was busy planning their second production when they were brought to justice by the Nigerian authorities.

Ofoyeju continued saying that the warehouse was big enough to produce massive amounts of crystal meth. According to the agency, the warehouse – which is located in the south Delta state – could produce approximately produce up to 4000 kilograms of crystal meth per week.

In Nigeria, a kilogram of the crystal meth sells for approximately $6000. However, in other markets in other countries (more specifically Asia), a kilogram of the crystal meth produces in this warehouse can fetch up to $300 000.
