Mother of 3 Escapes Boko Haram Captivity

A Nigerian woman, who is mother to three children, has escaped captivity by Boko Haram terrorists in the northeastern city of Maiduguri.

The woman, 30-year old Khadija Ibrahim, said that she was abducted by Boko Haram terrorists after which she was drugged and then told that she would become a suicide bomber.

She said that she was on her way to a doctor’s appointment when she was abducted by men at a bus station. Apparently, the men had offered her a lift and she accepted:

“…They offered me a lift, which I readily accepted because I wanted to be at the hospital on time. They drugged me by placing something on my nose and I lost consciousness,” she said.

She then carried on, saying that when she awoke, she was stripped of her belongings and strapped with a suicide bomber vest around her waist.

She said that the men who had captured her told her that she would be doing God’s work.

“…I just woke up to realise I had been stripped and strapped with a suicide vest and heard one of my captors whispering to me that I was going to do God’s work,” she said.

She said that the men had told her her mission was to attack the Kantin Kwari textile market in Kano.

However, lucky for her, she managed to escape the captivity of the men mostly by feigning unconsciousness.

She said she saw an opportunity to escape when the car they were travelling in overheated twice and they had to stop. She said she had unclipped the suicide vest the second time the car broke down and was now ready to jump out of the car.

“…While the driver went to look for water the other man went out to the opened bonnet to examine the engine, which gave me an opportunity to ran out of the vehicle,” she told reporters.

Ibrahim was then later picked up by a man and taken to the police station where she was handed to the state governor, Umar Ganduje.
