October 03, 2016

Nigeria’s Central Bank Governor, Goodwin Emefiele’s wife Margaret was kidnapped in Thursday and held for at least 24-hours by her kidnappers, officials have confirmed.

According to a police spokesperson, Emefiele was taken on the road while she was on her way from Benin City to Agbor.

Officials also confirmed that four others were taken along with her, including the driver of the car she was in.

The others were three other women that were travelling with her.

It is not yet known whether a ransom was paid for the release of Emefiele and the other four people, but security officials confirmed that she, along with the others, were released at around 12:30 am on Saturday.

Kidnappings in Nigeria have been become frequent over the past year and especially over the past few months as the country faces a recession and tensions rise between rebel militant groups and the government.
