Nigerian Govt Vows To Bring Back Chibok Girls
After almost two years have passed to the day, the Nigerian government has once again vowed that they would do anything in their power to bring back the school girls that were kidnapped by terrorist group, Boko Haram, in April of 2014.
The abduction of more than 200 schoolgirls from a state secondary school in Chibok, in the eastern Nigerian state of Borno, shocked the world and an international campaign called, #BringBackOurGirls, was launchd worldwide.
While there have been few cases of girls that have escaped Boko Haram’s hold, the majority of the girls have not been seen since that day in April 2014.
It is believed that many of these girls are being forced into marriages with some of the Boko Haram soldiers or being sold as sex-slaves and used in armed attacks.
Boko Haram has killed thousands of people over the past 7 years in their quest to enforce a strict Islamic Law onto Nigeria and other West African countries.
However, President Muhammad Buhari, has reiterated the fact that the Nigerian government “will not rest” until they have located the lost girls and brought them home safely.
Bihari spoke on Wednesday, during a visit to the European Parliament in Strasbourg, France.
He said that him and the government will do anything in their power to locate the girls:
“…he government will not rest until all the girls are rescued alive and reunited with their families…I remain fully committed to this pledge,” he said.
He was then applauded by European legislators.
Bihari was elected President in March 2015, and has said that one of his main focuses as President would be to stop Boko Haram.
