The South African government has said that they are working with the Nigerian government to find the five workers that were kidnapped yesterday morning.

Five workers from Australian mining magnate, Macmahon, were kidnapped after their vehicle was ambushed yesterday morning in the Akpabuyo district near the capital of Cross River state, Calaba.

Two Australians, two Nigerians and one South African was kidnapped in the hijacking.

The South African Department of International Relations and Co-operation has been working closely with those in Nigeria to find out more information about the kidnapping.

The department also said that the South African High Commissioner to Nigeria, Lulu Mnguni, was working closely with Nigerian and Australian officials.

They also said that there has been no contact from the kidnappers yet regarding ransom.

The department tweeted:

“…The kidnappers have not made any demands yet. Officials at the SA High Commission are making arrangements to travel to the area where the kidnapping took place,”
