Sierra Leone Diplomat Kidnapped In Nigeria

July 04, 2016

Sierra Leone’s deputy high commissioner, Alfred Nelson-Williams, has been kidnapped in Nigeria while he was travelling from the capital of Abudja to Kaduna.

Nelson-Williams was on his way to attend a ceremony in Kaduna.

Yusuf Yakubu Soja, of the Kaduna state security said that the investigating unit is busy investigating how the kidnapping took place. They are working with the Sierra Leone government as well as other Nigerian authorities to establish exactly what happened.

“…We want to establish whether he had security escorts with him and what happened to them…[sic] He was kidnapped on his way to Kaduna from Abuja to attend the passing out ceremony of military officers at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College in Jaji outside Kaduna,” Yusuf Yakubu Soja said.

The investigating parties could not yet comment on whether or not there has been contact with the kidnappers and whether they were demanding a ransom or not.

These kind of kidnappings are common place in Nigeria. Just a week ago, two Australians, a New Zealander and a South African was kidnapped in a similar fashion. Luckily, they were released unharmed four days later.
