State Of Emergency Declared In Mali

July 22, 2016

Mali’s government has declared a state of emergency in the country after a deadly attack rocked the country.

The attack took place at an army base in Nampala on Wednesday.

The government confirmed that the attack killed 17 soldiers and seriously injured a further 35. It is believed that the attack is the work of a terrorist group.

However, two separate groups have claimed responsibility for the attack. One of them being a jihadi terror group and the other and ethnic group. It is unclear whether or not the two groups worked together or not.

The government said that the state of emergency will provisionally last for 10 days. They also said that there would be days set aside for national mourning following the tragedy.

They said that the mourning period will “…[pay] homage to the victims of the terrorist attack.”
