Thousands Of Children Affected By Malnutrition

July 20, 2016

According to the United Nations’ children’s agency, more than 49 000 children are at risk of dying from malnutrition some areas of Nigeria.

The UN said that, unless these children receive urgent medical attention and the nutrients and food they need, they will most likely die.

These children have been unable to receive the food and care they need, due to the blockages caused by Boko Haram in Nigeria’s north-eastern regions.

Most of the children affected had been struggling to survive in areas that were controlled by Boko Haram extremists for several years.

Only recently, when a multinational force liberated the areas from the terrorists, could aid workers access the people and children in the area and attempt to help them.

Unicef has called on donors and charities to sponsor these malnutritioned children and help them save as many kids as possible.

They also said that in the Borno state of Nigeria, more than 250 000 children severely malnourished.

Unicef said that they have only received about half of the  $55.5 million in aid they appealed for last year to help the malnourished children of Nigeria and that they are now appealing for more.
