Typhoid Outbreak in Zimbabwe Claims Life
Zimbabwean authorities have confirmed that there have been reported cases of typhoid disease in the Zimbabwean capital of Harare.
Authorities have also confirmed that one person has died from the disease.
They further confirmed that at least 30 other people have been hospitalised and are currently being treated for the disease.
Medical doctors have also been placed on high alert and have urged people in the area to be vigilant when it comes to hygiene.
“…We urge people to maintain high levels of hygiene to ensure that we do not lose many lives to typhoid and other water borne diseases,” the doctor said.
Residents have blamed the outbreak on the poor water quality in the area, saying that raw sewage gushing into the drinkable water has caused a list of other health problems as well.
“…Raw sewage is always flowing in the streets because council is not repairing the burst pipes – most of which were installed during the time of Rhodesian government,” one resident said.
The residents also complained about garbage being everywhere and called on the government to improve their garbage collection in the area and repair the sewage pipes.
“…garbage is everywhere and the situation has become worse because of the rains that are falling these days,” the residents said.
