VP Returns from Visit to Buhari

July 12, 2017

Nigerian Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has returned to Abuja after a brief visit with ailing president, Muhammadu Buhari, in London.

Osinbajo met with Buhari on Tuesday, according to the Nigerian government’s official Twitter page.

Osinbajo has also been the acting president of Nigeria since Buhari left the country to receive medical treatment in the UK on 7 May. He has overseen international meetings with other world leaders and will chair a weekly cabinet meeting in the Nigerian parliament on Wednesday.

Speculation over Buhari’s mystery illness has increased over the past few months, with people calling for more clarity over the President’s well-being. The presidency has not said what exactly is wrong with the 74-year-old.

Osinbajo’s meeting with Buhari was the first time the two senior leaders met face-to-face in more than two months.

Upon his return, Osinbajo said that he had a ‘very good’ meeting with Buhari and that he will share ‘more information’ on the meeting with the President in due course.

Earlier this month, Buhari’s wife, Aisha, flew to London to visit her husband. She has also not shared any information about his illness.

Rumours have been spreading across the country that the president has terminal cancer and is receiving chemotherapy in London.
