Arsenal: Wenger Will Choose Successor
Arsenal’s upper management has suggested that current manager, Arsene Wenger, will choose his own successor, and will not be blindsided, should the decision to replace him be made.
Various reports have suggested that Wenger may very well be on his way out, after his contract with the English Premier League club expires at the end of the season.
However, Arsenal shareholder, Alisher Usmanov, has said that the man himself will be involved in finding a successor.
“Some continuity is needed. This includes the need to prepare a successor for Wenger, but in a very respectful way…I can suggest that Wenger himself can prepare a successor [sic],” the Russian billionaire, who owns 30% of the club, told reporters.
He also emphasised to reporters that Arsenal’s dismal performance as of late is not the fault of Wenger alone.
“I do not think that the coach alone is to be blamed for what is happening,” Usmanov said.
The 67-year-old has been at the helm of Arsenal for 21 years and has garnered quite the following in his time at the London-based club.
However, fans have been making their grievances heard recently, calling for Wenger to resign.
Thus far, neither club management nor Wenger himself has commented officially on his future at the club.
