FIFA Confirms Dates for Nigeria vs Cameroon
World football governing body, FIFA, has finally confirmed the dates for the 2018 World Cup qualifying matches between Nigeria’s Super Eagles and Cameroon’s Les Lions Indomptables.
Nigeria had initially requested that FIFA bill the two games between 1 September and 4 September. FIFA, however, announced that the first game will be played on 31 August, and the second game on 4 September.
FIFA said that they decided on these dates in order to accommodate the various television broadcasters wishing to air the matches live.
The first match will take place at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo in Nigeria, while the second match will take place at the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium in Yaounde in Cameroon.
The Super Eagles currently hold the top spot in Group B, with six points from two games. Cameroon are in second place, four points behind Nigeria.
Third and fourth place belong to Zambia and Algeria respectively.
While Cameroon may be the current Africa Cup of Nations champions, several Super Eagles players have told reporters that they are confident in their ability to stay on top in Group B.
The Super Eagles previously defeated Zambia 2-1 in their first qualifying match, going on to defeat Algeria 3-1.
Next year’s FIFA World Cup will take place in Russia between 14 June and 15 July.
