John Mikel To Explore Other Options
Nigerian international, John Mikel, has said that he will have to explore his options with regards to club transfers if current club, Chelsea, does not extend his contract.
Mikel has been playing for Chelsea since 2006, when they signed him as a teenager.
However, the talented midfielder says that he will have no choice but to look at other Premier League teams if Chelsea do not offer him an extension on his contract in the coming months.
Mikel recently told reporters that he has one year left on his contract with Chelsea and that the time to start looking around would be now.
“I have one year left [on my contract],” he told reporters. “When you have a year left as a football player, you have to start planning and start thinking about what’s going to happen at the end of the season…[sic] When you have a year left, in January, you are allowed to talk to other clubs and sign a pre-contract or have an agreement so, yes, I will talk to other clubs because you never know what is going to happen” he said.
He continued saying that Chelsea is his home, but that he is not worried about the future:
“…I’ve been here for a long, long time. I’ve spent 11 years of my life in this football club, it is my home…This season is the last at the club if my contract ends. I am quite relaxed about it, the future looks good.”
