Liverpool Apologises for Fans’ Behaviour

April 06, 2018

Liverpool have apologised to Manchester City after their team bus was damaged on its approach to Anfield.

The Reds’ fans ignored warnings not to set off flares and smoke bombs ahead of the Champions League quarter-final, and the Sky Blues got a hostile reception as they travelled to the match.

After being pelted with bottles, cans and firecrackers, the front window of the bus was smashed.

Manchester City said that they were forced to find a different mode of transport for their journey home.

Two police officers were also injured in the chaos, and the Merseyside Police have confirmed that an investigation into the incidents are underway.

Liverpool, who went on to win the match 3-0, apologised to their opponents ahead of the game, and said that they will be conducting their own enquiry.

The club said that they “condemn in the strongest possible terms” the behaviour of their supporters outside the grounds.

Manchester City boss, Pep Guardiola, expressed surprise at the actions of fans of a club as “prestigious” as Liverpool.

He has also questioned whether enough protection was offered to his team, considering that Liverpool knew that Man City might face a hostile reception, and even changed the bus route to try to avoid it.
