Lukaku Talks Pogba’s Decision to Return To United
Everton striker, Romelu Lukaku, has defended his close friend Paul Pogba’s decision to return to Manchester United after critics said Pogba made the return just because of the money.
The Belgian international told reporters that he was with Pogba when the talks of him returning to Old Trafford started, and that he (Pogba) was overjoyed when he signed the deal to return to Manchester United under the guide of manager Jose Mourinho.
“…When everything was signed – and I’ve known Paul for many years – I’ve never seen him with that look on his face…I’d never seen him so happy. This return to United, it had nothing to do with money. It was a relief, a real happiness for him,” Lukaku said.
He continued saying that Pogba had previously told him it was his ‘dream’ to return to Manchester United:
“…We only spoke once about football during our holidays this summer, when we were at a pool in LA, and he was telling me about his dream to return to United. That’s when I understood what it meant,” he said.
Pogba signed with United for a world record transfer deal of £89.3 million.
