N’Golo Kante Named PFA Player of The Year

April 24, 2017

French international and Chelsea star midfielder, N’Golo Kante, has been awarded the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) Player of The Year award.

The award, given to a fellow footballer by his peers, is awarded each year to an exceptional player that has shown amazing growth and skills over the course of the season.

Ante also had some stiff competition this year. Other players that were also in the running for the prestigious award included Tottenham’s star striker, Harry Kane, and Everton’s equally impressive player, Romelu Lukaku.

Kante, a former Leicester City player, said that it was very special for him to have received this award, especially as it given by fellow footballers.

“To be chosen by the players to be player of the year means a lot to me…It means the world to be chosen and it’s been two beautiful seasons, one with Leicester, and we are in good form with Chelsea. To be player of the year, it’s a great honour,” he said.

Kante is also close to making history. Should his team, Chelsea, win the English Premier League (which is very likely) he will become the first player to win the English Premier League consecutively, with two different teams.

He was part of the Leicester City team that won the League last season.

Kante also had praise for Chelsea manager, Antonio Conte, saying that just like Claudio Ranieri did with Leicester last season, Conte instills a kind of ‘winning’ mentality in the team:

“He knows what he wants from the players…He wants to win, and we work very, very, very hard in training for him. He put a winning mentality into the squad, and everyone wants to give their best for the team, and to make Chelsea win titles,” he said.
