Rangers, Rivers Qualify for CAF Champions League

February 20, 2017

Nigerian clubs, Enugu Rangers and Rivers United, have both qualified for the first round of the CAF Champions League over the weekend.

The Rangers managed to make it through to the first round thanks to the away goals rule, as their match against JS Saoura of Algeria ended in a goalless draw. They had previously had a 1-1 draw with Saoura.

Rivers United had a better result, however, with the Nigerians demolishing Mali’s AS Real 4-0.

Rivers’ will next face Sundanese club, Al-Merreikh, in the first round of the Champions League.

As for the Rangers, they are up against one of Egypt’s biggest clubs, Zamalek, in the first round.

Zamalek should be a tough match for the Rangers, as the Egyptian club managed to make it to the finals of the CAF Champions League last year.

The CAF Champions League is almost a year-long tournament, with this year’s tournament coming to an end on the 5th of November.
