Several Super Eagles Stars Scouted for English Premier League
Reports are suggesting that some of Nigeria’s top international soccer players playing in Europe have been scouted on several occasions for various clubs the English Premier League.
The players that are reportedly being monitored include Moses Simon, Wilfred Ndidi, Eddy Onazi and Oghenekaro Etebo.
The scouts, representing Manchester United, Newcastle United, West Brom and Crystal Palace, were spotted at the Hive Stadium in London when Nigeria’s Super Eagles took on Senegal in an international friendly on March 23rd.
The match ended in a 1-1 draw.
Other reports have also suggested that scouts CSKA Moscow, Standard Liege and Besiktas were also spotted amongst the crowd at the Nigeria-Senegal game.
A top European scout reportedly confirmed to a Nigerian soccer website that there were, in fact, many European scouts in attendance.
They are all monitoring the performance by various African players, as they prepare to start the bidding process when the transfer window opens again.
“Many European scouts came to watch the game but they will be largely disappointed that the second game against Burkina Faso didn’t hold,” a source told the website.
He continued, saying that it was a pity that the Burkina Faso game did not pan out, as players will be judged better by more than one game.
Several Nigerians are already making a splash in the English Premier League, most notably John Obi Mikel of Chelsea, Kelechi Iheanacho who plays for Manchester City and Alex Iwobi who plays for Arsenal.
