June 28, 2016

Two ‘would-be’ suicide bombers were killed in Maiduguri City in northeast Nigeria on Sunday, when their suicide vests exploded prematurely.

According to residents of the of the city, they heard the two bomb blasts go off around midnight on Sunday evening.

It is believed that the suicide bombers were Boko Haram terrorists.

The explosions happened while residents of the city were gathering at various mosques around the city for special prayers for the holy month of Ramadan.

According to the residents, it was only later on Monday that the shattered bodies of the suicide bombers were found.

This is the first ‘would-be’ bombing in a long time for the area. Ever since Nigerian military joined forces with neighbouring Cameroon, Chad and Niger to launch a full out attack on Boko Haram terrorists, the bombings and attacks have been few and far between.

Over the past week, the Nigerian military has also rescued more than 5000 people taken hostage by the terrorist organization.
