Wenger’s Future “Not in His Hands”
Arsene Wenger has admitted that his future at Arsenal is out of his control.
The 68-year-old Frenchman has been manager at The Gunners for 21 years, since 1996.
Arsenal is currently sixth in the Premier League table, 27 points behind Manchester City who are in the top spot, and they are out of the FA Cup.
Their best chance to earn some silverware this season was the Carabao Cup, but they were thrashed in the final by Manchester City 3-1.
Their critically panned performance has increased the calls – which were already being made this season – for Arsenal’s top management to make a change in leadership.
When asked about his future, Wenger responded: “I am an employee and I give my best for my club that I love.”
Wenger signed a new two-year contract last summer, and has always insisted he would honour any deal he has penned. He said that in the past he has “turned the whole world down” to respect his contracts.
Wenger also said that right now he is focussing on their upcoming game tonight, in which they will again be taking on Manchester City, this time in the Premier League.
He said: “My position is my position. Honestly, that’s the last worry I have at the moment. My worry is to focus, to get the team ready for [tonight’s] game.”
